NASA's Artemis 1 Orion spacecraft is returning to Earth from the moon on its historic uncrewed test flight and you can see live views and mission updates from NASA right now for free. Splashdown is set for Sunday, Dec. 11.
Both the captive and free-flight tests proved that shuttle orbiters could fly atop the SCA in a piggyback formation, which was necessary to ferry shuttle orbiters from Dryden, where they would be landing, to Florida, where they would launch again.
I've always had great faith in and respect for our space program, and what happened today does nothing to diminish it. We don't hide our space program. We don't keep secrets and cover things up. We do it all up front and in public. That's the way freedom is, and we wouldn't change it for a minute. We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue. I want to add that I wish I could talk to every man and woman who works for NASA or who worked on this mission and tell them: ``Your dedication and professionalism have moved and impressed us for decades. And we know of your anguish. We share it.''
The space agency plans to rely on commercial spaceships and rockets to launch American astronauts and cargo missions to the space station once the shuttle fleet retires. U.S. President Barack Obama has called for the cancellation of NASA's initially planned post-shuttle program Constellation, which aimed to send astronauts back to the moon.
On February 7, 1984, Bruce McCandless became the first human to float free from any earthly anchor when he stepped out of the space shuttle Challenger and flew away from the ship. In a still-startling NASA image from that mission, untethered McCandless hangs 320 feet from Challenger, suspended above our impossibly blue planet and appearing paradoxically powerful and fragile against the yawning vastness of the cosmos.
In addition to the free-flying spacewalk, McCandless field tested the Mobile Foot Restraint on the end of shuttle's robotic arm, designed to hold astronauts in place while they perform delicate tasks.

We have over 500 Atari 2600 games for you to play online for free using our Atari 2600 Javascript Emulator.
SEATTLE, Feb. 5, 2013--On Jan. 28 the Museum opened a new temporary exhibit, Space Shuttle: Conquering Low Earth Orbit. The exhibit is on loan from NASA, and was created at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center by the same engineers who designed and built the shuttle's powerful engines. The exhibit touches on the shuttle program's accomplishments and risks, and displays artifacts including spacesuit gloves, a tire used by the shuttle Columbia, some flown shuttle thermal protection tiles, and a section of a shuttle main engine nozzle. Space Shuttle: Conquering Low Earth Orbit will be showing through June, and is free with admission to the Museum. 153554b96e
